The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K UT) was reorganised in 2019 when the former state was bifurcated. For JKSSB exams, you need crisp facts: two capitals, two administrative divisions, and what changed in governance — not a political essay.
Two capitals and two divisions
- Srinagar — summer capital; lies in the Kashmir division.
- Jammu — winter capital; lies in the Jammu division.
The UT also includes Ladakh as a separate union territory since the reorganisation. JKSSB GK often tests whether you still treat “J&K UT” as Jammu division + Kashmir division only (Ladakh is outside this UT).
Why this matters on the exam
Questions are short MCQs: match capital to season, pick the correct post-reorganisation fact, or eliminate options that still describe the old state. Master these as atoms — one fact per retrieval — then layer geography and history in the next lesson.
Practice
FAA exam rules: −0.25 marks per wrong MCQ. Blank is better than a wild guess.
